My Neighborhood
I really like where I live. Almost everyone in my neighborhood is Latino like me. I get along great with the other kids in my neighborhood. We hang out after school and on weekends. A bunch of times during the year, the whole neighborhood has a street festival to show our Hispanic pride. The only thing I don’t really like about living here is that my mom and dad got me and my brother scholarships to a private school on the other side of the city, so we have to leave friends we've had since grade school. They say its because they want me to get a good education and go to college since they never could. It makes me really nervous to have to make a whole new set of friends-- especially ones really different from me. I love my new school now, but sometimes I think it would be easier to go to my new school with my friends from the 'hood. Does that make any sense at all?

I can totally relate. My parents did the same thing to me and I was majorly upset, but I know it's important to get a good education. Still, shouldn't a kid at least have some say in where she goes to school--or not?

I agree! Parents don't realize how hard it is to be new, or how anxious it can make you. Sometimes, when I go to bed at night I can't sleep because I'm always thinking about this thing or the other thing--not just being new. When I was little, I never worried so much, or thought about the future--except when a holiday was coming up. I kind of miss that, especially when it ruins my sleep!
