Divorce
My friend Keisha came over to the house for the first time today. She saw a picture of my mom on my desk. She didn’t realize who it was, so when I told her she got really uncomfortable because she didn’t know my parents were divorced. I don’t mind talking about my mom now, but initially it was really hard for me to tell my friends what was going on because my mom just left and didn’t say why.

Ouch! At least I knew why my dad left—he met someone else. I was really angry when it happened. It took me a long time before I agreed to get together with him, but my mom is happy now and she says it’s important for me to spend time with him. She says, “No matter what, he’s still your dad.”
