It's in Your Jeans
By Clare Tattersall, staff writer
Can style be learned? Or do you have to bee born with it? Don't know? Read on and see how it's clearly in your jeans!
It's that time again. Time to head back to school—in style. Your style. It's time to think creatively and figure out how you're going to transform your wardrobe without emptying your wallet.
Denim Daze
Start with that old pair of jeans you have hanging in your closet. You don't really wear them anymore, but you aren't ready to part with them either. Pick up your scissors, needle, thread, and glue and put your imagination to work.
5 Steps to Success:
- On a sheet of paper sketch out shapes, (e.g. flame shapes, flowers, etc.) cut out the shapes and arrange them in a pattern.
- Place the paper shapes on fabric and cut out around them. The more varied the texture and color of the fabric, the more daring your design.
- Place the fabric shapes on your jeans and pin them to keep them in place.
- Stitch the fabric in place on your jeans.
- Once the fabric is in place, you can add glitter and glam with buttons and beads for extra detail.
Keep Creating
If you are making a flower design, use embroidery thread for the stems and leaves or use clear beads to represent dew drops. Remember, there are no rules. You are setting the style and providing the direction.
