D.I.Y.
Prom Chic: It's in the Bag

Will he? Won't he? What to wear? Prom time is approaching, the tension is building, and the chance to get creative is here.

You want to look your best, it's your chance to show your true colors…style is in the palm of your hands and if the boy of your dreams isn't hanging on your arm, then the perfect bag will be.

Less is More

2005 is the year of minimalism. The bags are small and the image is "low maintenance." As in way-low. As in basic essentials only. So for every girl who wants to have her way, it's time to get creative and do-it-yourself.

7 Steps to a Chic, Creative Bag

  1. Cut out two circles of equal size in contrasting fabric. The circles should be at least 12-16 inches in diameter to have a decent size bag.
  2. Placing right sides together, sew around the edge leaving a small opening. Turn the fabric right side out and hand-sew the opening.
  3. About one inch from the outside, sew a line of stitching. Sew a second line of stitching about one inch from the first. This is where you will thread the ribbon to make the bag handles.
  4. Cut a small hole and bind the edges at a point between the two lines of stitching. Repeat at a point half way around the circle.
  5. Take two yards of ribbon and cut it in half. Attach one piece to a safety pin. Entering at the first hole, thread the ribbon all the way around the circle. Tie the two ends together.
  6. Take the second piece of ribbon and, entering at the second hole, thread it all the way around and then tie the ends together. When you pull the knots of each piece of ribbon the fabric will pull together and you have a bag!
  7. Now all you need to do is decorate the bag with buttons, beads, or trimmings that work with your prom dress.

Style? You've got it girl!
