'She's the Man'
At the Movies with Danielle and Jessica
The latest teen movie to hit the big screen is "She's the Man" starring Amanda Bynes. In this movie everyone has a secret. When Viola, discovers that her soccer team has been cut from her school, she disguises herself as her twin brother and takes his place at his new boarding school for two weeks.
Things get very amusing as Viola realizes that she is falling in love with her new roommate, Duke (who thinks she is Sebastian), and finds herself the object of affection of the beautiful Olivia (the girl whom Duke has a crush on). Things get even more complicated when her twin brother, the "real" Sebastian, finally turns up...and well, the secrets begin to unravel.
STUDIO 2B had a chance to attend a sneak preview of this film. Check out what our "movie experts" (Jessica and Danielle) had to say and see if you should add it to your "must see" list for 2006.
Danielle's Review
"She's the Man" is a delightful remake of the Shakespearean classic "Twelfth Night." Just like in the play, you can find mistaken identity, unrequited love, and people getting into all sorts of mishaps along the way. "She's the Man" is the new "Ten Things I Hate About You" with an all-new hot cast of young actors, which has Amanda Bynes as the ringleader of the pack. Amanda brought her usual wit and charm playing both Viola and her twin brother Sebastian and at some instances even at the same time. In my opinion, this teen chick flick has the formula for success with catch phrases, cool clothes, fights, misunderstandings, and even a kissing booth. All gets resolved in the end wrapping up the movie into a nice, fun loving package. The movie definitely has chick flick written all over it but it is certainly enjoyed by all ages and both sexes alike. Amanda is more than just the man; she's the woman!
Jessica's Review
Hilarious and motivating, "She's the Man" keeps you laughing in your seat the whole way through. Teenage girl Viola, played by the one and only Amanda Bynes, has a passion for soccer and sets out to prove that she is great at the sport, whether she is a girl or not. There is a web of she likes him and he likes her throughout the movie which keeps the attention of everyone watching. As a girl, and even as a guy, Amanda Bynes is energetic, witty, humorous and outstanding. In my opinion, you can't go on this year without watching the amazing film, "She's the Man."

What the Stars Think:
In their own Words
Amanda Bynes (Viola)
How did you feel about playing a boy in this movie?
"I was not thrilled—a little freaked out. However I was into the idea of doing a teen comedy that was more mature. Once I put on the wig and sideburns I got into the whole boy role."
What was the best and worst part about being a "guy"?
"(The best part) was to find out what really goes on in a guy's mind. The hardest part was to be a man all day—12-14 hour days. I would have to eat lunch dressed as a man with a horrible wig."
What advice do you have for teenage girls in finding that right guy?
"I still haven't found that right guy so I guess I need advice. Girls want the guy who is cute but you also want someone who is funny and not stuck up. You should be able to be yourself around him because that is what (guys) like to see."
Robert Hoffman (Justin)
How did it feel to be in the movie "She's the Man?"
"I really enjoyed being in a project like 'She's the Man.' I am able to improvise and not always stick to the lines. For example, in the scene where I was the goalie and I said 'NINJA GOALIE!' that was my own line and I was glad that they kept it."
How did you prepare for the role of Justin?
"Justin is some sort of me. I didn't care about anyone else; I was Rob with no respect."
What are three words to describe you?
"Hyperactive, passionate, anxious." |
