Hope for the Season
Holiday Wishes from the Online Girl Web Team
Compiled by Stacie, 15, Mississippi
December marks a time of cultural celebrations all over the world. It is also a time for reflection—as the season's beautiful moments unfold worldwide in traditions dear to each home and person, the Online Girl Web Team took a moment to think about what their holiday wishes are.

My first wish is that everyone would do something special for someone. It doesn't have to be extravagant, just something to show that you care and want to make someone feel special.
I also wish that our entire family could be here to celebrate with us because Christmas Day will be my great grandmother's 100th birthday. The holidays are a time to feel the fullness of love that surrounds us.

Year after year, the first thing on my list is something I know I won't get but I serve myself up a large Hope Latte. After the sugar rush wears off, I realize once again I'm going to have to add it to my list next year. It is a large, hairy animal commonly known as the horse.
Another wish would be to have an internship at a neurology lab. You don't have to tell me; I know preserved brains are a little gross and smell quite a bit. But really, how cool would it be to get to poke around at the thing that controls everything we think and do?

I wish that throughout the month of December, every person around the world would be equal to each other. Providing equality brings everyone together which is what I think the holidays are all about.

For many people, when they think of holidays they focus on shopping. Gotta get those deals! I wish people would look at the holidays as a time to reconnect with your family. Then you can get your cousins' emails, grandma's phone number, etc., and keep in touch with them until next holiday season.

My wish is for a trip to Costa Rica. A while ago I read about a mission trip there and it sounds like an awesome way to spend my summer. I have been trying to find a way to go all year and hope that I may receive funding and support.
Sarah, 11
Palos Verdes, Calif.
During the holidays I think it's important to have wishes for yourself and for others. My wishes this year for others are stopping world hunger and violence. People are getting hurt by other kids and adults; some kids are even hurt by their parents. If people take the time to talk things out instead of using violence, the world would be a safer place.

I wish that the seniors applying to college this winter do not stress too much over this tiring process and that they are accepted into the schools of their choice.
Savina, 14
Abuja, Nigeria
Girl power! I wish that girls all over the world could find the strength to stand up for themselves and what they believe in, to make their communities and the world the best they can be!
Rachel, 14

My holiday wish is something very close to me. I wish that there would be a cure for cancer. My family has been affected by cancer many times.
Danielle, 11
Glendale, Calif.
I always wish every year that everyone has safe and joyous holiday. My second wish is for snow where I live. I've never seen real snow and it would definitely make my holidays a little bit merrier.

This holiday season, I wish all of our soldiers overseas could return to their families. I hope that all of my family members can get together for a great meal and a wonderful evening. I am so thankful to have them.

Children are trying to become adults at too early an age. I only wish that children would ask for toys to help them enjoy their childhood. My favorite quote is, "Never stop playing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop playing." |
