Latina Focus: Krystal
Hispanic Heritage Month

Meet Krystal, who started a program to share dance education and entertainment with children.

Fifteen-year-old Krystal embraces her culture on the dance floor. This San Antonio Texan took her first flamenco dance lesson when she was two and was instantly hooked. Her passion for dance has garnered her lots of accolades including winning the title of Miss Recreation 2007 from the city's Parks and Recreation Department, and receiving a Julia L. Cauthorn dance scholarship in 2005 and 2006.

Krystal has also studied Mexican folklorico, salsa, hip-hop, Spanish classical and ballet. However Spanish flamenco is a favorite because of the cultural ties to her Spanish heritage. Krystal also dedicated much of her free time to help out other kids. She founded Krystal for Kids, a program to share dance education and entertainment with children. She also is the spirit behind annual dance shows for the patients at a local children's hospital. We can't wait to see where this young woman's confidence, compassion and artistic nature will take her.
