Question
Dear Dr. M & Liz,
I feel like I don't have a group that is close. I have three best friends, but two of them don't even go to my school! I hang out with other people too, but they are super annoying most of the time. I've made friends, but everyone already is part of a group. Help!

—Heather, 13, California

Advice
Dear Heather,
You say that you have three best friends. A couple of them go to other schools so you have to make more of an effort to get together with them. You hang out with some other people and many of them are annoying, so you may have to learn to be a little more tolerant of them. Most of your friends are part of other groups, so you may need to learn to share their time. If you create opportunities for your various friends to get together, they might find that they like each other and want to become more of a group. But if that doesn't happen, continue to enjoy being with your friends.
—Dr. M

Dear Heather,
It's OK not to have one specific group that you hang out with all the time. You can still have fun with your three best friends. If you really would rather be part of a group, maybe you can become friends with the people in the groups of girls you've already become friends with.
—Liz
