Get Involved — Help Protect the Planet
By Jodi Stewart Schwarzer, staff writer
Did you know…
Earth Day (April 22)
National Environmental Education Week (April 15-22)
National Garden Month (April)
…and other events are right around the corner?
Girl Scouts all over the country are participating and organizing events that help raise awareness about protecting our planet. Here are ideas for keeping the Earth green:
- Plant some native trees
- Clean up a stream or a beach
- Educate your community about reducing energy and curbing global warming
- Create a community Green Team and kick it off on Earth Day
- Host a letter writing café where community members can write or sign letters to their members of Congress about environmental issues
See the Web sites below for more good ideas and suggestions.
Register your Girl Scout Earth Day events and see what other Girl Scouts are doing at:
1. EarthDay.gov, EarthDay.org
2. EE Week
3. National Garden Month
Share what you did on Earth Day by sending photos, artwork, or publicity with a short write up to: "Earth Day Projects" Elliott Wildlife Values Project, 420 5th Avenue, 15th Floor, New York, NY 10018. Or send via e-mail to submit@studio2b.org. Be sure that you and your parents download and sign this photo release form to send with your submission.
Remember Earth Day is every day! Get involved in these other national conservation events throughout the year. View the 2007 National Conservation Events Calendar. |
