National Trails Day® 2007
Discover the Wonder and Excitement of Trails
By Ivan Levin, National Trails Day Coordinator
Did you know there is one day out of the year when thousands of people, including Girl Scouts just like you, get outside and experience the wonder of trails? Did you know that participating in National Trails Day (NTD) helps you earn the Get With the Land patch?
Here are a few ways you and your troop can join in the fun on NTD:
- Discover the sites and sounds of bird watching
- Take a guided hike by moonlight
- Go geocaching and letterboxing
- Join a trail clean-up team for some much needed trail maintenance
- Connect with the environment by participating in a scavenger hunt
- Experience a trail on horseback
- Grab a paddle and discover a water trail
Getting involved in NTD is a great way to spend time with friends and to give back to your community!
National Trails Day Photo Contest
Grab your camera and capture your National Trails Day experience with a photo. Go to American Hiking's NTD photo contest and get the chance to win trekking poles, American Hiking merchandise and other awesome outdoor gear.
Register Your Event
Don't forget to get involved by having your troop host their own NTD event or partner up with another organization in your community. Visit American Hiking Society's Web site for information on the NTD photo contest, to register your event and to see what other Girl Scouts around the country are doing to celebrate NTD. |
