The Juliette Low World Friendship Fund

What is it?

The Juliette Low World Friendship Fund honors Juliette Low's commitment to promoting the global sisterhood of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting while making her dream a reality for girls in the United States and around the globe.

Juliette Gordon Low was a prolific traveler who had friends around the globe. One of these friends, Lord Robert Baden-Powell of England, introduced her to the concept of Girl Guiding. Juliette knew immediately that girls in the United States would benefit from the Girl Guiding movement and in 1912 took it upon herself to create Girl Scouts of the USA. While she developed and nurtured Girl Scouting in the USA, she never forgot her friends overseas. She believed strongly in the global sisterhood of Girl Scouting/Girl Guiding and in offering the benefits of Girl Scouting to more and more girls around the globe.

To honor Juliette's love of traveling, experiencing new cultures, and making new friends, Girl Scouts of the USA created the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund (JLWFF) in 1927. The purpose of the Fund is to extend Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding to girls around the world, as well as to support international friendship through service projects, training events, and exchange visits.

Today, the JLWFF strengthens the Girl Scout Movement by supporting national and global initiatives to serve girls and young women. Contributions to the Fund help make it possible for girls and young women in the United States to connect with their counterparts in other countries, to advance the work of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), and to help strengthen other Girl Guide/Girl Scout organizations. Specifically, the fund subsidizes girl travel to WAGGGS endorsed events through the Girl Scout destinations program. The Fund's contribution to WAGGGS also helps Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting in areas where the Movement is in the early stages of development.

The JLWFF attracts voluntary donations from troops and groups, individual girls and adults, Girl Scout councils, members of USA Girl Scouts Overseas (USAGSO), board members and alumni, staff, and other friends of global Girl Scouting. In 2004, Girl Scouts of the USA inaugurated the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund’s Web site to make giving to the fund easier by enabling online contributions.

How Do I Give?

Anyone can give to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund—girls, adults, organizations, councils, and troops. Please note that troop donations to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund should be sent to local Girl Scout councils rather than to Girl Scouts of the USA. The donations will be batched by councils and sent to the fund periodically.

If it is not possible to send donations directly to your local Girl Scout council, send to:

Girl Scouts of the USA

Please make checks payable to Girl Scouts of the USA and add the code JLWFF on the memo line to ensure the money is credited to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund.

Donations also can be made through our donation Web site.
