Amazon Adventure: Peru
Experience the immensity, biodiversity and splendor of the Amazon Rainforest.
The vastness of the Amazon rainforest captivates the mind and reveals a world full of secrets and rich diversity that few places on Earth can rival. Experience the hustle and bustle of Iquitos, one of the Amazon basin’s largest cities, and immerse yourself deep in the rainforest further down the river. Visit with rural river communities and search for toucans, scarlet macaws, pink river dolphins, sloths, poison dart frogs, monkeys and literally thousands of other species.
Picture It
Experience the world’s most famous tropical rainforest. You and nineteen Girl Scouts will learn about science, culture, leadership and community service. Come experience this life-changing adventure that will leave you inspired and ready to make a positive difference in the world!
Head by boat along the Amazon River to your first jungle lodge. Visit a local Yagua community to learn about traditional Amazonian cultures. Learn about tropical ecology and conservation via short hikes and boat excursions with our guides and scientists. Head further downriver to a second jungle lodge. Nestled among the trees, you'll learn about rainforest ecology, medicinal plants and study the great diversity of plant and animal life in the forest. The world famous canopy walkway is a highlight at the third lodge: the Amazon Conservatory of Tropical Studies Field Station (ACTS). The canopy is believed by scientists to be one of the most diverse and unstudied areas left in the world. The forest is incredible from this vantage point!
Your expedition will also include a full-day service project alongside local community members. You may build a garden, paint a school or construct a playground – it all depends on what the community requests.
You will learn, laugh, lead and live life fully… returning home ready to act. To complete your experience, you'll design a follow-up leadership project that takes your trip to a whole new level!
