The Ultimate in Outdoor Adventuring
Explore the beauty of Costa Rica. Picture It
Come sample the best Costa Rica has to offer! This 10 or 15-day course will take you through lush, tropical cloud and rain forests, down raging whitewater rivers and out to some of the best surf beaches in the world. In addition, you'll get a chance to explore the rich cultural offerings of the country's capital city of San Jose and be part of a service project that will help enhnace people's lives.
After getting geared up at our base camp just outside of San Jose, you'll begin your journey with a multi-day camping trek into one of the most remote regions of Costa Rica. You will hike, cook, sleep and learn while looking for wildlife, checking out waterfalls and gaining insight into the mysteries of the jungle and the people who live there. You will experience a homestay with an indigenouis family - learning about their way of life and helping them with some of their traditional activities such as harvesting and grinding sugarcane, making tortillas and playing soccer with local children.
Hiking out of the rainforest, you will find yourself on the idyllic west-coast beach where you'll spend a day learning how to surf the waves and, if you're lucky, spotting monkeys, sloth and tree frogs.
You will also have a chance to brave the rapids while whitewater rafting, go on a canopy tour, and get to experience the vibrant culture of San Jose during a city tour.
Girl Scouts will be exposed to Costa Rica Outward Bound’s unique approach to outdoor education and personal development. Woven into all activities are discussions and meetings about leadership. You will explore how the challenges you meet in and out of the Central American wilderness help you confront other challenges that life presents.
